The Family Proclamation~ Activity Day

We focused on the family for this activity. The requirement is to make a list of ways you can strengthen and bring happiness to your family. Of course we need to do more then make list!
This is the girls worksheet to fulfill the requirement.

Unity game one:
The girls were given some paper plates, piece of wood and some foam squares. (I wish I had cool stuff like step stools and stumps but I don't) They had to start at one end of the gym and make their way to the other side with out touching the gym floor. If they touched the floor they had to start over. On the way across they had to pick up papers with words from the proclamation: work, fun, respect, compassion, etc. They can't do this on their own, they have to work together. They did great.

After they made it we talked about how the activity related to families and the words they picked up. They talked about helping each other, being kind when we make mistakes, etc. The girls were very insightful.

Unity game 2 focused on the marriage relationship. I wanted the girls to think about being equal partners, how being kind to each other made it more fun and easier to accomplish the task. Here's what they did:
1. 2 girls shared one shirt and had one arm each to use.
2. They had to wrap a gift together. I gave them paper, tape, scissors and a book to wrap.

We talked about how they related the game to marriage and family.
This activity opened there eyes to how much work is required to make a marriage or any relationship work.
My 18 year old helped out as my 2nd adult and helped out with this activity since I had an odd number of girls.
Last, we made a cookie mix in a jar and talked about what they can do to "CHIP" in and help their families be successful. I found the cute tag and proclamation on pinterest at etsy and Visit alexamariezurcher.comalexamariezurcher.com.

I didn't take a photo of the flyer but I gave them a chocolate chip cookie with a tag that read, "Families are Forever- Do your part and "chip" in" with the date and time.

Turkey Craft

I always plan a little craft Thanksgiving for all my little family. This year I am having them make a name card to hold their spot at the dinner table. Instead of "gobble" they'll write their name. Just paper cut outs for the base and feathers. I used sticker foam paper for the nose. The legs are pipe cleaner. The body is a Ferrero Rocher candy. Delicious and practical!

candy bar poster for coach

A card to go with the coaches gift.

Hey Coach!
We want to take 5 seconds for the coaches quote of the day. A great coach will have a good and plenty amount of advice from digs are lifesavers, don't let balls slip though your butterfingers, to don't fall to pieces when we have a sour patch. We have had mounds of fun when the serving is hot and the spikes are extra awesome.

Service Manger

I don't know who first came up with this idea but I love it! Grab some old wood and make a little baby Jesus manger to help your family focus on Christ at Christmas. I have a little bag of raffia and overtime the kids serve others they get to add a straw to baby Jesus bed. The goal is to make it comfy in time for His birth Christmas day.

Fun gift for friends and cute craft for youth groups.

Scripture Hero- Learn & Live the Gospel

When it was time to start I gave the girls a pillowcase of sheets and clips and told them to use anything in the room and make a tent in the wilderness that they could all fit in. They had 8 minutes to do it. One side had to be open so they could see me and the other leader though. Then we had song and prayer.

The girls took turns talking about their favorite scripture hero and how they can follow their examples and have faith in Jesus Christ.
I gave the girls the scripture hero page to fill out as the flyer. The girls filled out the page and came prepared to share.
After sharing it was time for some games. Before games I would have the girls share their thoughts.
Example: Our next activity involves armor. Tell me thoughts or events in the scriptures involving armor. How can we use this knowledge to help us now?

The girls were always insightful and I loved hearing their testimonies.
Activity 1- Use the 2 rolls of foil (dollar store) and make armor.
Activity 2- We then taught about how the examples of hero in the scriptures can be a blessing. I divided the girls in 2 groups and gave them envelopes with the pictures (I cut off the words on the pictures describing the events) and captions. The girls raced to match the correct picture and caption.

Activity 3- We talked about boats in the scriptures and then raced our paper boats using only a straw to blow through.

Article of Faith reminder to memorize

I love fun handouts to remind girls to memorize their Articles of Faith. I also think they would be fun Personal Progress reminders.
I saw some cute Finding Nemo snack containers at the party store & grabbed them, Dory's song "just keep swimming" humming in my head. I gave my activity day girls one of thee Sunday. A little bag of fish crackers and the Article of Faith games from the Friend magazine from an earlier post.

Friend Magazine Articles of Faith

Putting these cards on a ring for the girls to help encourage them to memorize their Articles of Faith. They are from the Friend magazine and so great!

Family & Personal History Activity

The girls put together these cute family and personal history books for the activity. It was more preparation for me because I gathered the photos and stories for each girl in advance. Then I put the story, photos and stickers or embellishments in a bag and labeled it for each page in the book. This just made it faster for the girls to assemble. I would not do that for older girls.

Some of the girls had gaps in their books but that was ok.
One girl had divorced parents. I still had her do the wedding photo and story because they are both involved in her life and love her. She also included the step dads photo and story as well- work with the parent for what would be best.

I printed this quote for each girls book to have on page 1,
"The more connected we feel with our righteous forefathers, the more likely we are to make wise and righteous choices." William R. Walker
Put their title sticker on. These small, blank book have been on sale frequently at Target. I'm sure you could also find them online.
Page 2-3. Family photo- my girls picked an older one.
Page 4-5. Photo of grandparents and their wedding story
Page 6-7. Photo of great grandparents and story if available
Page 8-9. The parents wedding story and their baby story
Page 10-11. Baby photos and any other stories you want to include
Page 12-13. Baptism photos, testimony and their memories of baptism
Last page. We included a family recipe from both mom and dads side of the family with a story.
When I was a "Merry Miss' (activity days a long time ago) My group cross stitched "Treasures of My Life" and the leaders put it on a fabric binder for our personal history. 30 years later I still have mine and my kids enjoy looking at old report cards, notes, homecoming corsages and photo, etc. I wanted my activity girls to experience the same thing.

My assistant enjoys sewing so she made a large covered binder for each girl. We decided to just print out the saying on heavy paper. We let the girls go through my book and talked to them about keeping a personal history of their own. The heritage books we made during the activity were to go inside.
All the girls were excited. Here is the inside of one of their books to give an idea.

Learning & Living the Gospel Activity Day

I put together this journal page for my activity day girls to fill out and bring to the activity. I am giving it to them with their flyer.  I added extra bubbles for them to draw pictures or write extra things about their hero.

It passes off -
"Tell a story from the Book of Mormon that teaches about faith in Jesus Christ. Share your testimony of the Savior"

The girls will take turns sharing one of their heroes from the scriptures.
I am still deciding on what to do after sharing our scripture hero.

I like these two ideas.
Make scripture cookies in a jar or scripture minute to win it games.

Faith in God completion Award

Our Primary give the girls a framed certificate when they finish their Faith in God. I recognize them during an activity day as well. I give my girls an arrow necklace I bought and made a card-stock card to keep the necklace on. I also give them their favorite candy.

Temple Activity Day

I wanted to do an activity with the girls that taught them a little about Heavenly Fathers house, the temple.. I know they want to do something though not just have a lesson. So I decided to do a collage with them that answered what the temple is for and things they can do to go inside someday. We just talked about the temple as we glued and arranged and answered questions the girls had.

I found the page above in The Friend magazine and used it as a guide.
These are the flyers. They are tiny, maybe 3 inches, and have a few rolo candies inside.

The Collage:
Our temple is the Newport Beach Temple so this is the picture I wanted front and center.
These are the photos I used. The pictures not of the temple represent some of the questions you answer to receive a recommend: Do you believe Christ is our Savior? Do you believe this is the restored church? Do you believe President Nelson is a prophet? Do you attend your meetings? Do you keep your covenants? and then I included a recommend for them to write their own name on and a couple temple related quotes.
We talked about those recommend interview questions as we worked too.

I love these temple boxes from Cookie Nut Creations! I used big ones for popcorn snacks during the activity and mini ones for the flyer.

This section describes what the temple rooms are used for and provides a list from The Friend magazine of things the Primary children can do now to prepare to enter the Holy Temple.

These temple boxes I made large, one took up a whole page of card-stock. I put the girls after activity snack inside, rolos and popcorn.

My girls collages. I love the photos behind the temple to represent "See yourself in the temple".

                                         Temple Bracelet:
After we finished the temple collage we made temple bracelets to remind them to prepare now to go inside someday. The tiny temples are so sweet!
I got the mini temples from Doodle Beads. They were awesome and I didn't have to wait long at all.
